SUSPENSION, WHEELS, REAR END
Performance Brake Kit (Power Stop K5431 Carbon Fiber Pads with Drilled/Slotted Brake Rotors Kit)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3LUGuQs
Since I knew I was going to lift my truck and add oversized tires and wheels I knew a brake upgrade was going to be required. With the increase of rotating mass you wouldn't believe how much it effects your stopping power. So I went with drilled slotted rotors to keep everything as cool as possible and carbon brake pads to prevent brake fade due to high heat. I have put a fair amount of mileage on my brakes now and they stop very well and are very quiet. Well worth the investment.
Lift Kit (Pro Comp 65660K Suspension Lift Kit for 5-Lug Tacoma 2WD)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3LYZcX9
My truck is a 5 lug Tacoma which is not as common as the 6 lug. It is also much less common to see people lifting them which means my lift options were very limited. I decided to go with Procomp as they have a reputation and provide a quality part for a fair price. The rear on my truck has to have a add-a-leaf because if I use blocks it would actually lower the truck because the axle is above the leaf springs instead of below it. Just something to take note of.
Front Left Shock (Bilstein 24-185042 Monotube Shock, Front, Left, Yellow)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3wZQ5Bd
Since I still had the factory shocks on my truck I thought it was time to support my lift kit with a new set of performance shocks. I ended up going with Bilstein Yellow shocks as they are very popular known for good quality and actually had a set that would fit my application. I went with the Yellow shocks over the Grey ones as they are not as stiff. With the added leaf and the added strut extension these increase the stiffness of the ride and the last thing I wanted to do was make the ride even more harsh with aggressive shocks. I'm proud to say I am very happy with my choice as these shocks fit my application and provided an amazing ride and the truck feels firmly plated on the road without feeling harsh at all.
Front Right Shock (Bilstein 24-185066 Monotube Shock, Front, Right, Yellow)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3N0rz8x
Since I still had the factory shocks on my truck I thought it was time to support my lift kit with a new set of performance shocks. I ended up going with Bilstein Yellow shocks as they are very popular known for good quality and actually had a set that would fit my application. I'm proud to say I am very happy with my choice as these shocks fit my application and provided an amazing ride and the truck feels firmly plated on the road without feeling harsh at all.
Rear Left & Right Shock (Bilstein 24-186056 Rear Shock for Toyota Tacoma, Each)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3M2M1Vh
Since I still had the factory shocks on my truck I thought it was time to support my lift kit with a new set of performance shocks. I ended up going with Bilstein Yellow shocks as they are very popular known for good quality and actually had a set that would fit my application. Lug Nuts (A-KARCK Lug Nuts M12 x 1.5)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3M12x80
Not many people are aware that aftermarket wheels typically use a different type of lug nuts than factory wheels. My Tacoma comes with a ball seat lug nut from the factory to work with the wheels that come on the truck. However my new wheels use tapered or acorn lug nuts as with many aftermarket wheels. Always confirm with your wheel provider the the required type of lug nuts and the degree angle for the taper. I chose black lugs to offset the grey wheels and match the center caps.
Wheels (16" Vision Off-Road 355 Manx 2 Overland Satin Grey Wheels 16x8 5x4.5 0mm)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/kGDaZP
Since all of my builds keep budget in mind this is one spot I didn't want to overspend as it can get costly. First off your lift kit will usually provide you the suggested wheel and tire size to match your lift, this will provide you with your suggested sizing and offset. Now that I knew what I was looking for I went with Vision wheels as they had many options and are affordable and quality to match higher priced wheels. Because every pound counts I went with one of the lightest wheels in my specs and they look great and I couldn't be happier with my selection.
Tires (Travelstar Ecopath 245/75R16 All Terrain Tire)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3m2yJgE
When shopping for tires I knew I wanted to go with all terrains as street tires wouldn't look right on a lifted truck and mud terrains are overkill for a truck that is going to be on the street 90% of the time. All terrain tires are a nice match of on and off road performance, looks and tread life. When shopping for truck tires they can get real heavy and you have two option P (passenger) or LT (Light Truck). Passenger tires usually have less plies and are lighter and have a lower load rating. Light truck tires usually have more plies and are heavier and a higher load rating. Since I'm not going to be towing or hauling heavy loads I went with Passenger All Terrain tires as it keeps my rotating mass down which improves fuel economy, braking and acceleration.
Gear Set (Nitro T100-410-ng Gear Set)
Because my truck is a 4 cylinder I did not want it to be underpowered with the oversized tires so a regear was necessary. This gear set replaces the long gears in the rear end to 4.10 gears which with the oversized wheels gives the drivability of a stock gear set on stock tires. Without it my truck would have a very hard time taking off and other drivability issues.
Gear Install Kit (Yukon Install Kit T100 / Tacoma Rear Axle)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/EdTKiy
Required when installing a new gear set, this install kit matches the gear set for my truck
Gear Spacer (Yukon SK CST100 Crush Sleeve Eliminator For Toyota Tacoma & T100 Rear)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/BizrYt
Highly suggested by the pros to be upgraded and replaced when doing a regear so this was added to the parts list and matches the gear set and install kit.
ACCESSORIES
Bull Bar (KYX Bull Bar for 2005-2015 Toyota Tacoma, Black)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3N1rVfb
With the complete conversion of the front end of my truck I wanted to protect it as much as possible. I know a steel bumper would be a great choice however they are expensive and heavy and I always try to keep my power to weight ratio as good as possible. The bull bar was the next best option, they are affordable and can look good if picked correctly and lastly they offer some protection for the front of the truck.
Antenna (Sports Style Short Antenna for Tacoma TRD)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3wWRVmv
One of easy ways to tell a older vehicle from a newer one is the antenna, on older cars they are long and noticeable and newer ones are small or shark fins on the top of the car. Because relocating my antenna to the top of the truck isn't practical going with a lower profile antenna was the obvious choice. The trd antenna gave me the look I was looking for at the expense of a little bit reduced radio frequency. Keep in mind its the little details that make a big difference in a overall build.
Rock Lights (4PODS LED Rock Lights Amber)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3PLJou9
Even though this isn't going to be some crazy rock crawler sometimes you just like the look of a mod. Im from the era of underbody neon lights under cars and still love the look of it. With the front of my truck being all amber led lighting I decided to go with amber led rock lights to match all around. They give the truck a nice look and if I ever am off road at night they might help me get out of a difficult spot, not bad for a low dollar mod.
Tail Lights (2005-2015 Tacoma AlphaRex PRO-Series Red Smoke Tail Lights)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/CbuhoU
There isn't many options when it comes to the Tacoma tail lights and even less that look good. The AlphaRex tail lights were the best looking ones that I could find. However when I installed them they didn't even work out of the box. When I contacted the manufacture they were unwilling to even honor the warranty. Fortunately the seller which I purchased them from took good care of me and provided me with a replacement set with no problems.
3rd Brake Light (Rear Third 3rd Brake LED Light 1995-2016 Toyota Tacoma Black Cover)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3a86MBI
For a low cost item I have to say I got what I paid for when it comes to the 3rd brake light. It looks ok and seems to have ok quality and it had decent fitment. The issue I had with this part is the connector that came on the new light would not connect to my factory set up so I had to cut off the new connector and wire the connector from my old 3rd brake light. After correcting the issue the light works and looks good, not bad for the price I paid.
Reverse Lights (921 LED Reverse Lights, 45SMD-4014 Chipsets, 1500 Lumens 6500K White)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3wW5Clz
Since all the lights on the truck are going to be led it would have been a shame to leave the reverse lights a dull orange with limited range. So I did my research and found a set of replacement leds that would fit my tail lights and offer a pure white color with exceptional brightness. I have to say after installing the new set of bulbs I am very happy with all aspect and have not have any issues.
License Plate Lights (VIPMOTOZ Red LED License Plate Light 2005-2015 Toyota Tacoma)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3lViMsD
The old plate lights were ran down and did not match the freshly painted bumper so I had two options restore them or replace them. After some searching it was a no brainer. The new set is amazing, it plugged right in and screwed right on with no issues. The new set is also led with the plate lights being very very bright and the added bonus of red led lights facing the rear to add a bit of a custom look.
Tacoma Emblems (11.75" x 1" Gloss Black Emblem Tacoma)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/aOcxIe
When I went to paint the truck all the old emblems had to be removed however if you have checked the price of emblems now a days they aren't exactly cheap. To make matters worse most of the Tacoma "emblems" online are actually emblem overlays so be careful when doing your search. I personally went with a set of 3 in gloss black and they look great.
Grille Emblem (LUOWANFit TRD Grille Badge Emblem Tacoma)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3Ni69Ep
I'm not a fan of putting emblems on a vehicle to act like its something that its not. For example im not going to put hellcat emblems on my v6 charger. So I wasn't going to try and brand my Tacoma as a TRD Sport or Pro however because my truck isn't exactly stock and I want to add a little Toyota Flare the TRD grill logo was a perfect fit.
Black American Flag Emblem (3D Metal American Flag Emblem 5"x3"Matte Black)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3wZgXkM
I live in America and I am very thankful to live here so I would like my truck to represent who I am so an American Flag Emblem just seemed right. Since the all the Tacoma emblems are gloss black it was obvious to order black flags as well. They are made of metal and have great adhesive backing.
Shred Vinyl Wrap (Vinyl Decal SHRED Wrap Toyota Tacoma 4D Short Bed 2005-2015 Gray)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/i7C1Ut
The side of my truck looked to plain for my taste and I personally like the look of a Ford Raptor. After reviewing many graphic options I realized the Shred pattern fit my taste the most. So I found my pattern, next had to pick my color but black wasn't going to work because the truck was black so I decided to go with grey as it is the color of my new wheel set. After receiving my order I have to say its like a puzzle trying to lay out the pattern and match it on the truck. Another issue I had was the vinyl used does not have air release which makes instillation much easier. And lastly installing the suggested wet method provided poor adhesion issues. Overall I would install it dry and take my time and it will come out looking good.
Carbon Fiber Vinyl Wrap (VViViD XPO Black Carbon Fiber 5ft x 1ft Vinyl Roll w/ Air Release)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3N4D5Qp
A good carbon fiber vinyl just makes you want to carbon fiber everything on your car. And that was the case when I received my Carbon Fiber Vinyl, I decided to go with a dry carbon look as to offset the gloss of the black truck. The vinyl looks real, has excellent air release properties and installed nicely and had great quality. I overall was very happy with the results.
FRONT END CONVERSION PARTS
Headlights (MORIMOTO XB HYBRID AMBER LED HeadLights 2012-2015 Toyota Tacoma)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/mW6er5
My truck is a 2007 and I was not about to do all this work and leave it looking dated. So I did my research and found a set of headlights that looked on another level, the only issue is they are for a 2012-2015 Tacoma. Let me just say even though they are the most expensive lights I have ever installed on a build I also had to do a full front end conversion just to use them. I have to say which everything done they were worth every bit of work and every penny. Morimoto headlights quality is amazing, the install was so simple and they really thought every detail through. They have a wonderful warranty and provided the modern look my truck so badly needed. A+++++++++++
Head Light Filler Trim Panel (KYYET Headlight Filler Trim Tacoma 2012 2013 2014)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3x0wO2F
The headlight filler trim panel is the little plastic piece that goes under the headlights, please keep in mind these need to be painted to match the truck. Required on the front conversion.
Headlight Bracket Clips (Headlight Bracket Clips For Toyota Tacoma)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/OgM8qr
These clips hold the headlights to the body of the truck. Required on the front conversion.
Fog Light Housing (Remarkable Power 2012-2015 Tacoma Fog Light Kits H11-12V, FL7117)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3GBkSaW
I had to buy a fog light set to get the mounting bracket and wiring and switch of factory even though I knew I wanted led fog lights to match the led headlights. The plus was the whole set was not expensive fit nicely and was well worth the money, even if you just want to add fog lights.
Led Fog Lights (LED Fog Lights For Toyota Tacoma)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/fW8dIi
I knew I wanted LED fog lights to match my LED headlights but they can get expensive. So I looked around and found an affordable set and I must say I didn't have high hopes as I wasnt sure if they were going to fit or be very bright. I was actually wrong on both counts, the led fog lights I purchased dropped right in and felt nice quality and were plenty bright as fog lights.
Performance Grill w/Lights (Tacoma TRD Style 2012-2015 Matte Black)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3LZRaNU
With an amazing set of headlights I knew I couldn't just settle for the stock grill. After comparing the different options it was obvious the TRD style grill was going to be the best match. I also like the look of the raptor grill lights so when I found a grill that looked sporty and had the amber led grill lights I was looking for at a reasonable price I had to have it. It looks amazing on the truck, two things worth noting is the plastic seems like it could be brittle so take care when doing the install and also the grill surround isnt provided so you would need to use the old one from your old grill. That being said I would buy it again if given the chance.
Grill w/Molding (Tacoma Grille - Gloss Black 2012-2015 Toyota Tacoma)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3N4AmXl
Because I did the front end conversion on my truck I didn't have the little piece that surrounds the grill. I looked online but could not find the grill surround sold by itself which sucks because I had to buy another grill just to get the grill surround. Required on the front conversion.
Splash Shield (Left & Right) (Splash Shield 2012-2015 Tacoma Front Left & Right Side)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/4ZAtAR
With the front end conversion the old splash shields do not match so I needed to replace them. The splash shields are also called fender liners which are on the inside of your fenders to prevent debris from the tires from going into the engine bay. Required on the front conversion.
Hood (Replacement Hood 12-15 Toyota Tacoma W/Hood Scoop Provision)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/yaI0mp
It would be a shame to do a full front end conversion on my truck and go back with the stock hood, also the old hood wont fit so I decided to go with the TRD hood with hood scoop. Just a note the scoop is not included so you would need to purchase it separately. Required on the front conversion.
Hood Scoop Kit (Hood Air Scoop Insert Kit 2012-2015 Tacoma Unpainted)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/pwctfT
The hood scoop kit provides the hood scoop (which is black) and all the little attachments that are required to install it. Dont bother trying to buy all the pieces separately as it would be a total pain.
Hood Latch (Hood Latch Lock Toyota Tacoma 2012-2015 TO1234185)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/rmjttp
With the conversion and a new hood the old latch may work but most people say just to buy a new one as its difficult to reach and operate, for the price I want to make sure I can open my hood when I need to.
Hood Latch Support (Toyota Hood Latch Support 53209-04020)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/Q8eHVv
The hood latch support is the vertical beam that the hood latch attaches to, it is required for the front end conversion.
Bumper Cover (Primered - Front Bumper Cover 2012-2015 Toyota Tacoma)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/VWXpnU
The bumper cover is obviously the cover that covers your bumper however most people (including myself) just call them bumpers. Required on the front conversion.
Bumper Lower Grille (Bumper Grille 2012-2015 Toyota Tacoma Black Plastic)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/yo14m7
The bumper cover is missing the lower grill so if you buy a bumper cover this will be required. Required on the front conversion.
Bumper Retainer Clip (Toyota 52531-04010 Bumper Filler Retainer)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3z81IYc
These little clips bolt to the truck frame parts and allow you to attach the bumper/grill and headlight filler trim panel. Required on the front conversion.
Bumper Retainer Bracket (Front Bumper Retainer Bracket 2012-2021 Tacoma TO1062100)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/5TIJxk
The bumper retainer brackets rivet to the actual bumper to provide additional support. Required on the front conversion.
Bumper Support Bracket (Bumper Bracket 2012-2015 Toyota Tacoma Bumper Bracket Set)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/T5akgO
The bumper support bracket bolts to the side of the truck and also provide additional support to the headlights. Required on the front conversion.
Outer Bumper Bracket (Front Outer Bumper Bracket Set 12-15 Toyota Tacoma)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/WCaeCf
The outer bumper brackets bolt off the latch support bracket and mount under the headlights which provides support. Required on the front conversion.
Bumper Reinforcement Kit (Bumper Reinforcement Kit 2012-2015 Toyota Tacoma)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/gRv9vh
The bumper reinforcement kit includes the actual bumper and the cross bracket that supports all the other front brackets and front grill. Required on the front conversion.
Bumper Support Set (Bumper Bracket 2012-2015 Toyota Tacoma Bumper Support Set)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/VULE8p
The bumper support set attaches to the bumper with rivets and provides additional support for the lower part of the bumper cover.
INTERIOR
Floor Mats (Husky Weatherbeater Front Floor Liners - Black | 13941 2005-2015 Toyota Tacoma)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3lYlDRO
With the full interior detail of the Tacoma I knew I wanted to keep the truck looking nice and protected especially on dirty jobs. The husky liners are a great fit as they are all weather and drop right in filling every square inch of the floor including the contours. I highly suggest over generic fitting mats as that's what was in the truck before the detail.
Stereo Install Kit (Metra 95-8214TB Double DIN Dash Kit Toyota Tacoma 2005-2011 Black)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3N4eonk
A stereo dash install kit is required if you want to go from the factory Tacoma to an after market stereo. I personally installed a double din stereo which is twice as wide as a standard size stereo. The kit is mostly plastic so be careful on the install.
Stereo (Axxera Av6118bi)
No longer being sold in stores from what I can tell but it was a gift and an improvement over the stock stereo which the volume knob was starting to fail. Now my truck has blue tooth for streaming and phone calls, not a bad upgrade.
PAINT SUPPLIES
Paint & Clear Coat Kit (Tcp Black Diamond Firemist Gallon Kit Low VOC URETHANE BASECOAT Car Paint Kit)
Check it out on Ebay - https://ebay.us/zfKQ3h
I am by no means a professional painter however I do have a background in selling paint and I must say I have had great luck with TCP products as they seem to be of good quality at a practical price and since I live in California its not always easy finding a solution for painting. I went with the black fire mist as my truck was a black metallic and I didn't want to have to paint the engine bay or door jams. Additionally I knew I was going to paint outside so the metallic would reduce the look of dust in the paint if any winds kicked up.
Primer (Custom Coat Self Etching Acid Etch Primer 12.9 Oz Spray Can Gray Primer)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3NEdHRi
You cannot just use any primer on metal, you actually need a metal primer and since I was only doing spot repairs I went with spray can over a 2 part spray gun primer, the manufacture also said it work well with body filler and I must say I did not have any issues with coverage or adhesion.
Adhesion Promoter (Plastic Primer) (Dupli-Color CP199 Clear Primer - 11 oz.)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3x1R0kS
You cannot just paint plastic, you actually need a special clear primer known as adhesion promoter. It is very thin and dries right away but it helps bonding to plastic, I would also suggest scuffing the plastic to provide a mechanical bond as well.
Grease & Wax Remover (Custom Shop Restoration KW901 Grease and Wax Remover Quart)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3mfHfJH
Any impurities on your surface can show up in your paint, for example if you touch your panel with your bare hands the oils from your hands will not be visible however when you paint the paint will not lay down on oil and your fingerprints will show up in your paint. So right before you paint you would always want to wipe your panel down with grease and wax remover to remove any oils or chemicals to prevent any issues.
Paint Gun (Astro EUROHE103 EuroPro Spray Gun with 1.3mm Nozzle)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3a8tolB
I've had multiple hvlp (high volume low pressure) paint guns and I must say this one is my favorite. It laid out my paint and clear the best out off all my guns and if I were to only have one paint gun this would be it.
Paint Strainers (TCP Global Paint Strainers 190 Micron Filter Tips)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3N2G1x0
When you mix your paint and pour it into your paint gun you do not want to risk any large debris from the paint itself or contamination going into your gun and blocking the spray pattern. You do not want to be painting and your spray pattern change or you start to drip on your panel. To prevent this you strain the paint right as it goes in the paint gun.
Mixing Cups (Custom Shop 16 Ounce Paint Mixing Cups)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3NLd74k
Different types of primers, paints and clears have different mixing ratios. With the price of paints and clears being so expensive you do not want to throw out a whole batch because you mixed it incorrectly or even worse spray it on your vehicle and it never cure or other problems. The cool thing about paint mixing cups is they have multiple ways of measuring your mixing ratio on every cup so you can pick the option that best suits your needs.
Masking Tape (3M 26334 3/4" x 55m Automotive Performance Paint Masking Tape, Green)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3Gzey3v
So different brands and colors offer different options when it comes to masking tape. Some stick more, some stick less, some leave residue and some can bleed. I have had really good luck with the 3M green masking tape as it adheres really well has minimal bleed through and comes off easily with minimal residue.
Drape & Tape (Plastic Sheeting Automotive Masking Tape Drop Cloth 65 Feet x 35.4 in)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3Gvywwb
Have you ever been masking and looking around your house for newspaper just to cover large areas? I know I have. Drape & Tape is thin plastic sheeting with masking tape attached to the end. Its great because plastic doesn't bleed through like paper can and the attached tape just means pull stick cut and mask the remaining sides.
Body Filler (Evercoat Rage Gold Body Filler 128 Fl Oz)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3wZZqZL
Ive used a number of body fillers and some may not adhere well, can be difficult to sand or less than ideal fill properties. I did my research and found a lot of shops and pros like to use Rage so I gave it a shot. I must say it works great as an all around body filler for most applications works well and sands good. Just be careful as it can harden pretty quickly so work with manageable amounts.
Body Filler Spreaders (Custom Shop - 4 Inch Body Filler Spreaders (Box of 50)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3LVMhFj
The best way to apply body filler to your vehicle is using a body filler spreader. They are rubber and can mold to your panel and you can throw them away when your done to make clean up a breeze.
Body Filler Mixing Pad (Clean Sheets - CLN-CS100 Superior Mixing Pad (12x12) - 100 Sheets)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3lZlxcu
You do not want to be mixing your body filler on cardboard as it can absorb the filler or hardener also working with filler can be messy and it can stain and stick to everything, the body filler mixing pad makes the filler easy to handle and clean up.
Green Hand Pad (Scotch-Brite Scouring Pad 96, 60 Pads, 6” x 9”, General Purpose)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3a2qG0N
Great for scuffing your paint project as they do not leave sanding marks and can conform to your panel and great for getting in spots sandpaper wont work. Please keep in mind it wont remove defects like sanding paper will but the green hand pad is about 600 grit.
Maroon Hand Pad (3M 07447 Scotch-Brite Maroon General Purpose Hand Pad)
Check it out on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3N64tO0
Great for scuffing your paint project as they do not leave sanding marks and can conform to your panel and great for getting in spots sandpaper wont work. Please keep in mind it wont remove defects like sanding paper will but the maroon hand pad is about 320 grit.
What is the reason you guys didn't replace the front gear?
