-Paints & Fillers-
Dupli-Color HVP106 Vinyl and Fabric Coating Spray Paint - Flat Black - 11 oz Aerosol Can
Using the Dupli-Color Vinyl and Fabric Spray Paint was amazing. This stuff works really good for painting the door panels, plastics, seats. I was truely impressed. Just make sure to properly prep your part. Also a side note is when being used on fabric the fabric will be a little stiff until its been broke in. Other than that the product has lasted and produced great results.
Rust-Oleum 248658 Rust Reformer Spray, 10.25 oz, Black
The amount of surface rust on our project was easy to manage thanks to this paint. It converts surface rust to a useable and paintable surface. This stuff worked very well, dried quick and looked nice. We used so many cans of this stuff on our project and for good reason.
Rust-Oleum 248656 Professional Grade Rubberized Undercoating Spray, 15 oz, Black
We wanted to make sure the underside of our vehicle was protected from the elements and rust, we also wanted to make sure it looked good. Thats where this stuff came in. It did the job and the results were decent, just make sure you follow the directions.
Epoxy Fast Dry 2.1 low voc DTM Primer & Sealer Black Gallon Kit, SMR-260B/261
This was the primer that we used to paint the whole car. It did a good job of sealing the vehicle but it went on very very thick and required a lot of finish work before paint. Please note this is most likely user error such as not enough reducer or the temp we were shooting in.
Jet Black Automotive Basecoat , One Gallon SMR-9700. For California, Delaware, or Maryland, order SMR-9700LV.
This is the paint we used for the vehicle. It did a good job at a good price, sprayed on nice and looked good. No real issues or chemical reactions.
Speedokote SS-1200/75 - Ultra High Gloss with Superior DOI 2.1 voc Clear Coat, 2:1 Mix 6 quarts Medium Speed clearcoat Kit
The top coat to our paint job was this high gloss clear coat. The product did what it was supposed to. We did have some issues but once again this was user error. We had a lot of orange peel from spraying in light applications. When spraying clear you want to make sure you are laying down nice thick wet coats pretty much to the point right before it runs.
Evercoat Rage Gold Body Filler - 128 Fl Oz
For those moments you need some body filler dont cheap out and get something that might crack down the road. We had great luck with this stuff. It never gave us any problems, it set up quickly and worked well. Also after a lot of research this is what a lot of body shops use as well.
-Parts-
KILMAT 80 mil 36 sqft Car Sound Deadening Mat
For sound deadening and heat control we went with Kilmat. These panels were highly rated, easy to apply and did a good job.
TCI 616541 FAST-GATE Shifter, Black
For our shifter we went with a tci shifter. They seemed to be popular and get the job done. In my opinion the shifter is ok and works but was kind of difficult to install and shifting is kind of a pain with the required lockout lever.
4L60E/4L65E Performance Transmission
When we got our engine from the junkyard it didnt have a 2wd transmission. Since I dont know how to build transmissions we purchased a fully built one rated to 800hp and had a decent warranty. It was affordable and even had a torque converter included.
Hooker Gm A-Body Ls Swap Transmission Crossmember
Mounting the LS transmission was made easy using the crossmember from Hooker. It saves a lot of weight, time, measuring because they already did the work for you. It makes sure your at the correct height and angle and also works well with the hooker engine mounts.
Hooker 71221008 BlackHeart Engine Mount Brackets For 1964-1967 GM A-Body LS
For the LS swap we decided to go with Hooker for the swap parts because they sold almost all the solutions to our swap. Also if you stick with the same brand with your swap parts your less likely to run into issues.
ICT Billet LS Truck SUV Driver Side Alternator/Power Steering Pump Bracket 551519X-3
When mounting the accessories we had an issue with them hitting the steering box so we purchased this adapter to give us enough clearance. The product worked great and looked nice.
FGJQEFG 12 Inch Universal Slim Radiator 12V 80W Cooling Fan Black 2 Pcs
To cool our LS we wanted to go with electric fans to free up power and provide additional room. These fit the bill at a great price.
70101336-RHKR Hooker BlackHeart LS Swap Long Tube Headers - Stainless
When going with a LS swap your need to make sure your headers are going to work with your set up. Fortunately we went with hooker for the rest of the build so we knew these were going to work. They are a bit pricey but nothing offers free horsepower like a nice set of long tube headers.
Hooker Stainless Steel Exhaust LS Swap System for 1964-1967 Chevrolet Chevelle
Why try and have a custom exhaust made when you can buy one thats already built for your ls swapped application and body model. This system installed easily with no issues, sounded great and looked great.
Holley Fuel Tank Modules - 255 LPH - GM A-Body For 64-67 Chevrolet Chevelle
For fuel supply with our LS swap we went with the drop in kit from Holley, its great because its returnless and rated for the proper psi and flowrates that we needed while being simple and effective.
1964-72 A-Body All Wheel Performance Disc Brake Conversion Kit w/ Red Calipers
With all the power we were making we know we wanted to be able to stop and brake well so a 4 wheel disk conversion was part of the upgrades. This is a good option if you are on a tight budget but if you can afford it going for the wilwood kits might be a better result due to better design, support and materials.
Yukon (YG GMBOP-355) High Performance Ring and Pinion Gear Set for GM Buick/Oldsmobile/Pontiac 8.2" Differential
With the LS swap we had to make sure our gearing matched our drive terrain so we went with the
Yukon 3.55 gears for good launching but still be able to have highway manners.
American Racing VN515 15x7 5x4.5-6mm Polished Wheel Rim 15" Inch
For the wheel choice we went with the American Racing wheels as they had the sizing, bolt pattern and offset we needed for our build and while also keeping the classic stying in mind.
-Tools-
Can-Gun1 Premium Can Tool Aerosol Spray
With the amount of spray paint we used on this project our fingers would have been killing us. Fortunately this attachment exists that you can stick on the top of almost any spray paint can and hold it like a paint gun. The trigger is light and easy and also helps you get better results with cans an prevent fatague.
DEWALT 20V MAX XR 1/2" High Torque Impact Wrench (DCF899B)
I thought tear down of a car this old was going to be difficult but with this high torque impact wrench it was so quick and easy. This tool removed pretty much anything we threw at it with ease. I know the price point is a little steep but its worth every penny and does a great job. If the tool were to ever break I would without a doubt go out and buy another one.
DEWALT 20V MAX Cordless Drill and Impact Driver, Power Tool Combo Kit (DCK240C2)
I use these tools for everything. I use them at work and home pretty much every day. They do a good job, they have lasted for years and taken so much abuse and keep on working. This was my very first dewalt purchase and now most of my tools are dewalt. I love the 20v system.
DEWALT Right Angle Attachment (DWARA100)
For the tight to reach spots I love having my angle attachment. A lot of times your tools are going to be just to big to fit. This thing makes it way more possible to use your tools in most situations. I use this attachment on my impact driver and my drill and its lasted for a long time without any issues unlike other designs.
Mophorn Stud Welder Kit, 1600A Stud Welder Dent Repair Kit
For pulling major dents we used a stud welder such as this one. Just put in a stud, press to the dent, push button for a couple seconds and the stud is welded to the car. Then just grab the provided slide hammer and attach to the stud and pull the dent out. After your done break off the stud (I usually twist them off) and then use an angle grinder to smooth the surface.
Neiko 20709A Heavy Duty Auto Body Hammer and Dolly Kit, 7 Piece
For smaller dents and imperfections that we had rear access to we used a hammer and dolly kit. Just hold the dolly to the back of the pannel and lightly tap your metal to smooth the dent. Simple but effective.
BOSCH 4-1/2 Inch Angle Grinder GWS8-45
If your going to take on a project of this size you are going to need a angle grinder. Ive been working on cars for years and never really needed one but on this build it seemed like i was needing it almost everyday for jobs like cutting, sanding or stripping.
S SATC Strip Discs 5PCS Bule Stripping Wheel 4-1/2" x 7/8"
The easiest way we found to remove paint and rust while still being gentle on the metal was these strip discs. Just attach them to your angle grinder and your good to go.
LotFancy Flap Discs 4 1/2 for Angle Grinder, 20PCS, 40 60 80 120 Grit Sanding Disc, 4.5 x 7/8
For more involved jobs requiring serious body filler and rust removal we used these sanding flap discs, they work really well but can be more harsh on the metal surface than the stripping wheels. These also attach to your angle grinder.
Dura-Block Set 6pc - Flexible EVA Foam Wet or Dry Autobody Sanding Blocks Kit
To make sure we had smooth panels we used these sanding blocks. They hold your sand paper and allow you to sand in a smooth manner just like the pros do.
Dura-Gold Premium 80 Grit Gold PSA Longboard Sandpaper 20 Yard, 2-3/4" Wide
I know the dura-gold sand paper rolls can be a bit pricy but they make life so much easier and do such a good job. They are adhesive backed and you just tear a piece off and stick it to your dura-block. They stick really well and you dont have to worry about your sanding paper moving around. I use this on all my automotive paint projects now.
3M Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator 6200
This mask was a literal life saver. On restorations your going to encounter a lot of chemicals and debris that can be harmful. Just pony up the coin to protect yourself with a good mask.
3M P100 Respirator Cartridge/Filter 60926, 1 Pair
Your respirator mask is going to need a cartridge that will meet the needs of the task your doing. We liked to use this one because it works in a wide varity of situations.
